I think what Gabe is talking about when it comes to the editing was the Council in Constantine when what we consider the New Testament was pieced together (right?)

Thing about that council was that they were very particular about what would be included. They didn't edit or change any of the written works merely decided what would be included.

Fact is the books that were included (27 in all) were already widely circulated and considered scripture. The Early Church was VERY focused on the unchangeability of the good news of Christ. They learned and taught only what they'd been told/taught by the early disciples/apostles--people who'd spent time directly with Christ, or who had learned directly from those who'd spent time with Christ.
And what they'd been taught often took the form of letters/gospels from said people. By the time of the council (300ish AD) there had been other books written as well but most of them were written well after the time of Christ and thus were not considered as valid. Also, some included ideas that were not at all supported by the teachings of Jesus and His disciples/apostles who followed Him
Back in the time when the books of the NT were written, if any doubt was cast they could go back to the source or to other people who'd witnessed Jesus's life. They were considered truth then and they haven't been edited at all (not by the council or anyone) since--why are they not truthful now?

The council merely compiled the books that were already accepted as the scriptures/tradition of Jesus. All but 2 people (out of like 300+ I want to say but I don't remember the exact number) agreed on the books of the NT. But none of them were edited.

Was that what you were talking about--the Council?

Well, Gabe...it looks like those two high school girls pretty much backed up the statement I made. Nice job ladies. I've studied the Bible for the past 20 years and have devoted my life to teaching its truths because I've never found one error that would obviously affect my life choice. Isn't that amazing? Factually, it IS the most reliable source of human history we have available to us today and it has been for over 4000 years. I've been to Israel two times and observed many of the sites referenced in the Bible first-hand. Even those that archeologists used to say never existed. They've been found since those statements. An understanding of Biblical Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic really help in interpreting the Bible. The evidence for its validity is overwhelming...more so than any other historical source. I understand that its hard for people to concede that point, because that would require a knowing rejection of God (if indeed He wrote it through people) or an acceptance and submission to Him. Therefore, it becomes easy to believe ANY other theory.

Gabe, check out websites that deal in facts from a historic viewpoint. Sites like www.str.org and www.icr.org. If you're willing to seek out the truth rather than believing vague Biblical indictments that are unfounded, you'll find your answers. I'm really glad you're listening to our teaching through this incredible book of the bible, Genesis.

Dear Gabe,

Thank you for writing this comment. You wrote that we do not have the authority to claim the Bible to be so accurate because well, it's not. I would like to know who gives you the authority to say such things. Our authority comes from Jesus Christ who died to take away the sins of the world, but victoriously rose on the third day, conquering death.

Here is some information about the Bible:

It was written over a 1500 year span (longer than any publishing time for a science textbook) from 1400 B.C. to A.D. 100. We know this from what was written in the Bible about what was going on in the world in that time. The Bible was written by over 40 authors spanning over 40 generations who were inspired by the Holy Spirit. These authors came from a wide variety in the social spectrum from kings to peasants to fisherman and scholars. The Bible was written in many different places from the wilderness to dungeons and over 3 continents: Asia, Africa and Europe. The authors of the Bible wrote in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. People have tried their best to find error and conflict between different parts of the Bible, but there is no contradiction. Every book of the Bible fits perfectly with next. Try putting a science book through the same conditions and see how it turns out.

It is the Bible, the very spoken word of God, unedited (I'd like to know where you read that the Bible was edited) that has changed this world, not a science book.

I hope this has shed some light on the truth of the Bible. Please post any other questions you have. I'd love to continue this conversation! Our student leader team will be praying for you!

God Bless,
Sarah

I'm going to get attacked, but I have to ask:

What did you study to give you the license to say: "The Bible is the most accurate piece of evidence in the world" ?

Because...it's not accurate. It has never been proven to be accurate.

If the Bible were actually 2,000 pages of pure evidence about how God exists, maybe I'd believe in God. Be that as it may, it's one awkwardly-structured story.

Funnily, the Bible may very well be "the true word of God," but it was still heavily edited and revised by the Romans when Christianity became a religion. Who wants to be misquoted? Poor God.

I have nothing against you believing in God. I do have something against spreading falsities. The Bible is not factual, and it is not real evidence.

That crazy field of science, however, produces real evidence.
